About our Gender Equity Efforts

Women entrepreneurs face multiple challenges to access finance, with an estimated $42 billion financing gap for African women across business value chains (AfDB). In Africa, enterprises led by women were able to raise only 3.2% of the venture capital funding available (Briter Bridges). It is documented that when women business owners pitch their ideas to investors for early-stage capital, they receive significantly less, yet businesses founded by women ultimately deliver higher revenue—more than twice as much per dollar invested—than those founded by men (Boston Consulting Group, 2018). In addition, according to the UN, Women have been found to re-invest up to 90% of their earnings at a personal level back into their families and communities compared to 35% for men. Because of this, women are in many ways the backbone of African society and there is huge potential for women entrepreneurs, creating employment for themselves and others. By consequence, supporting more women-led entrepreneurs in Africa is not just a moral imperative, but an important economic imperative as well.  

Our position

What we are doing about it

We aim to lead by example by striving for gender equality in all activities. This applies to our internal hiring and promotion of talent and extends to the women-led enterprises participating in our programs and competitions, as well as the juries, investors and mentors working with the businesses. We work with public and private partners to run women entrepreneurial empowerment programs to increase women participation in emerging economies while advocating for Gender Lens Investing.

About the job

Since 2019, Seedstars has been supporting 500+ female founders in Africa through inclusive training opportunities, access to networks and access to investors. In addition, a focus is laid on gender lens investing, gender lens mentoring, research and insights. We are now hiring a Project Coordinator who will be a key middle-point for internal Seedstars execution units and will support the overall Acceleration Manager (project lead)  to bring the project to a successful close. You will work closely with the project lead of the program and Seedstars units/teams. You should be available to start this role by latest the 1st of June. This role can be done remotely 

Key responsibilities 

You will be responsible for supporting the project lead/acceleration manager with internal and external project coordination. This includes: 

  • Coordination between different Seedstars units to ensure the project is implemented effortlessly
  • Ensure the program is following best practices and being executed  using the outlined content and curriculum from the Seedstars playbook, and that the best possible experience is being delivered for all involved
  • Support the acceleration lead in managing relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Track quality, operational execution, and customer(entrepreneurs) and partner success metrics.
  • You will run experiments, compile and organize learnings and best practices to be shared internally or replicated in similar programs.
  • You will take the lead in the writing and setup of the reporting and administration of the project
  • You will do a regular check on plans, budget and team progress

Your profile

  • Your mindset
    • You have a passion for startups and technology, particularly in emerging markets and you share the mutual value on achieving gender equality in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation
    • You have a strong belief in getting things done - You have to be comfortable working alone and capable to prioritize and make things happen
    • You share a conviction of bootstrapping and love of the web/tech world  
    • You have an intuitive feel for what works and what doesn’t online!


  • Your experience
    • You have at least 4+ years of experience working in Africa or working on Africa related projects 
    • Excellent ability to read, write, speak English – MANDATORY
    • You have experience in coordinating complex projects that involve different internal teams and departments 
    • You have experience in project management for multiple key stakeholders. Ideally, you have also worked with DFI’s 
    • You know how to work under pressure and short deadlines
    • You can work autonomously while maintaining a great communications flow with other colleagues and teams internally.
    • You have experience in performing administrative tasks and have high attention to detail and following processes 
    • Knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered an advantage
