SAFEEM (Swiss Association For Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets) is a Geneva-based non-profit organization on a mission to support entrepreneurs in emerging markets through technology and entrepreneurship. SAFEEM is an independent organisation that operates in partnership with Seedstars, a global investment holding with a similar goal of impacting people's lives in emerging markets through technology and entrepreneurship. The organization works with Seedstars staff and has an Equivalency Determination (ED) certificate from NGOsource, proving its equivalence to a Certified Public Charity. SAFEEM has previously collaborated with various organizations such as UN Environment (UNEP), GIZ, European Union, Visa Foundation, and more to fuel economic growth and create jobs in emerging markets.

About the program

The Togo Program is a holistic technical assistance upskilling program to enhance the capacity of entrepreneurs and women in Togo to run and grow successful digitally-enabled businesses to minimize the digital divide, catalyze economic growth, and create jobs. The aim of this Program component is to increase the competitiveness and improve the management of businesses run by women by training them in basic business management skills and familiarizing them with digital tools across 6 cities in Togo. 

The workshop will cover concepts in leadership, data and digital skills for women running formal businesses or income-generating activities. The beneficiaries will also be equipped with phones and some productivity tools related to business management installed on the phones.

About the job

We are seeking a hands-on, self-starting Pedagogy and Digital skills Associate. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading, overseeing, and coordinating on digital technology for the Start component of the program. 

We expect the candidate to be responsible for data collection and analysis as well as shaping recommendations on relevant skills, tools and pedagogies that can be used in upcoming digitalization-linked trainings crafted for women outside of key cities in Togo, including rural areas. We thus expect the candidate to generate actionable recommendations, and drive projects from inception to execution while experimenting, mapping, and exploring best practices to run  successful trainings. 

This is an on the ground opportunity starting in Q2 of 2024, to be based in Lomé, Togo for a period of 9 months initially, with the possibility of an extension.

Main Responsibilities

Pedagogy & Curriculum 

  • Run, summarize, and analyze small-scale validity testing.
  • Adapt and validate content with trainers and Program Managers to optimize for clarity and local context.
  • Provide input to the Program module methodology, instruments, and implementation (including selection criteria, survey
    questionnaires and sampling design).
  • Evaluate digital competence frameworks and tools.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Connect people, tools, and resources to leverage interdisciplinary technical expertise to enhance development impact.
  • Interface with program partners to identify and share technical approaches, successes, and challenges.
  • Organize multiple days digitalization trainings across the country.

Data & Insights

  • Summarize and analyze Program results with M&E via qualitative interviews and focus groups.
  • Lead on and contribute to final evaluation reports and recommendations.

Your Profile


  • Fluent French with a foundation in English.
  • Advanced university degree in education research, education technology, or related social science discipline.
  • 3 plus years of experience in the field of digital education with knowledge of curricula and digital policies.
  • Strong expertise in educational research and digital pedagogy.
  • Strong knowledge about digital competence frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with designing, implementing and evaluating pilot projects.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent team player with high levels of empathy.
  • Passion for problem solving and striving for excellence. 

Nice to have 

  • Fluency in Ewé and Kabiyé.
  • Strong understanding of gender issues, digital technologies, and their role in economic and social development.
  • You are either a local entrepreneur, innovation enthusiast, or are knowledgeable about the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with startup incubation and acceleration programs.
